Zeigler Sunset Series returns this Tuesday
By Tara Fasol, The Southern

WEST FRANKFORT - When the sun sets in Zeigler the party has just begun, according to planners of the Zeigler Sunset Series, who welcome everyone out to the city circle for food, music and an impromptu-gab fest.

"It's the camaraderie," said Allan Patton, Zeigler resident and community organizer. "We have the people and the community leaders getting involved."

This Tuesday the event will kick off at 7 p.m. with a karaoke show. Patton said it is normally held the first Tuesday of each month at the same time.

Patton said the Zeigler Sunset Series has been a success for years because the entire community joins together to have a good time.

"In some other communities that doesn't happen," he said. "Until that happens you will not be a success."

The event takes place on the circle in downtown Zeigler and although the community is small, they pack the house with lawn chairs and blankets.

Zeigler Mayor Dennis Mitchell said the Sunset Series is a fun way for the community to show itself off, especially the food.

"I said we were going to have Zeigler-style hot dogs," he laughed. "You have heard of Chicago-style hot dogs so we have Zeigler-style hot dogs. Now, I don't really know what that means yet. We might just have to cook them until they are black like coal. We'll figure it out."

Patton said he is excited to see just how many people will turn out on Tuesday to show off their hidden singing talents.

"We are hoping to have just as many acts as our hour and a half or two hours can accommodate," he said.
