CARBONDALE - The 2008 Citizens Police Academy, sponsored by the Carbondale Police Department and SIUC Department of Public Safety, will begin Sept. 10.
The academy is now taking applications for the academy, which offers 13 class sessions.
Each class will focus on a different aspect of police work and the criminal justice system. Classes are from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays at the Carbondale Police Range, with one class held Saturday, Nov. 15.
Instruction will be by officers of the Carbondale and SIUC police; outside instructors will be used for certain subject areas.
The academy is open to Carbondale residents, those with SIUC affiliation, or those currently attending college with a goal of a career in law enforcement. Most classes show real diversity in ages, backgrounds and goals.
Those interested in attending, or seeking more information, should contact Randy Mathis, community resource officer, at 457-3200 ext. 428 or e-mail
