What he likes most about the route: Kevin likes the independence and the early hours.

What she likes most about the route: Linda likes the early morning hours and having the rest of the day free.

Outstanding Traits: District Manager Mark Romanowski says an anonymous customer wrote in to praise Linda, "Thanks to my carrier for making sure my paper is on the porch even though I'm in a rural area, I'm 80 years old and can't get out to the highway anymore."

Theresa Frost Of Herrin

What she likes most about the route: Theresa likes the early morning quietness. The route is out of town so she sees lots of wildlife. Her sun roof allows her to enjoy the night sky.

Hobbies: Cooking, camping, and running for the kids.

Outstanding Traits: District Manager Cheryl Johnson says, "Theresa goes above and beyond to take care of her customers. She also helps other carriers in Herrin. Theresa has always been someone I can count on."

Jonathan Hill Of Marion

What he likes most about the route: He likes the early mornings and he gains satisfaction by keeping his customers happy.

Hobbies: Watching sports and collecting sports memorabilia.

What he likes most about the route: Steve likes the fresh air, and getting out early in the morning, earning extra money to keep raccoon hunting.

Hobbies: Watching her son's sporting activities.

Kara Allerding of West Frankfort

What she likes most about the route: Kara enjoys having the rest of her day for other things. Kara is always busy!

Hobbies: Kara and her husband Scott participate with their children's sporting and school events.

Other Occupations: Kara is presently training to be an E.M.T. with her husband.

Outstanding Traits: District Manager Sheila Withrow said, "Kara's customers are her most loyal supporters. She truly wants to please them and it shows," said Withrow.

Barb Mangan of Makanda

Been a carrier for: 5 years

What she likes most about the route: The early mornings are only part of the reason why Barb enjoys her route. She also likes seeing the nature and wildlife around her. She likes the peacefulness.

Hobbies: Barb enjoys riding horses, sewing, reading and her three grandchildren.

Other Occupations: Barb also works at JC Penney's and maintains rental property.

Outstanding Traits: District Manager Nathan Van Hise says, "Barb is one of the busiest ladies I know, when you want something done right, ask a busy person."

Harold Beard of Carbondale

Been a carrier for: 4 months

What he likes most about the route: Harold enjoys the early hours and the independence being a carrier brings.

Hobbies: Card collecting is one of the hobbies Harold enjoys.

Outstanding Traits: District Manager Mark Romanowski said, "Harold is available at a minutes notice to help with any delivery needs."

Lucille Scholz of Gorham

Been a carrier for: 26 years

What she likes most about the route: Lucille enjoyed the 26 years as a carrier because she was able to meet and talk to great people. She liked seeing them every day.

Hobbies: Her hobbies most definitely include her 30 grandchildren.

Outstanding Traits: District Manager Jason Brown said, "26 years on her route, 7 days a week, Lucille has great ethic and true dedication!"

The Southern Illinoisan would like to congratulate Lucille Scholz who retired this month after 26 years of service! Her son has taken over her route as of February of 2001. Thanks again!

Michael Crain of Goreville

Been a carrier for: 2 years

What he likes most about the route: Michael likes the early mornings, and the fact that he's running his own business. He enjoys being his own boss.

Hobbies: His hobbies include gardening, lawn work, dancing, as well as being a St. Louis Cardinal fan.

Future Goals: Michael is looking forward to retirement in two years, but still plans on delivering The Southern Illinoisan.

Outstanding Traits: District Manager Nathan Van Hise says, "Michael is always willing to go out of his way to service his customers. During recent snow storms, customers in some areas on his route didn't receive their mail; however, they did receive their Southern Illinoisan newspaper." Great job Michael. Keep it up!

Sandi Riggs

Been a carrier for: 1 1/2 years

What she likes most about the route: Sandi enjoys the early morning serenity as well as all of her customers.

Hobbies: Camping, fishing and playing with her brand new granddaughter Haley are a few of Sandi's many hobbies.

Outstanding Traits: District Manager Cheryl Johnson said, "Sandi received numerous compliments at Christmas time from her customers. Most complimented her on how she is one of the best carriers that they have ever had. Sandi takes her route very seriously and is very focused on customer service."
