Is there anything more Southern Illinois than a musical about barbecue?

The Stage Company is hosting auditions for its upcoming production of "No Bones About It," a story of "char-crossed lovers" whose families are competing for top prize at the Verona National Ribfest.

Auditions will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28, and Tuesday, Aug. 29, in the Arnold Theater at The Varisty Center, at 418 S. Illinois Ave. in Carbondale. Anyone auditioning should prepare 16 to 32 bars of a song (a CD player and pianist will be provided). Cold readings and singing from the musical score will be held at 8 p.m. both nights.

The director is seeking actors to fill four male and three female roles, ages 18 to 60. The show will be performed Oct. 13 through 15 and Oct. 19 through 22.

Brandyn McGhee directs. Rebecca Newburn is the musical director. A copy of the script and show materials is on reserve at the Carbondale Public Library.
