Carbondale Community Arts is kicking off a new program, CCA First Friday, which is a monthly public reception to celebrate the current exhibit on display in the gallery at Artspace 304.
In January, the featured artist is Dan Johnson, whose work is currently on display in gallery. Johnson will take visitors on a tour of the gallery, sharing insight on the theme and process behind his series "Mini-Monumentals."
The reception is from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at 304 W. Walnut St. The event is free.
"Mini-Monumentals" showcases Johnson's sculptures made of clay, concrete, granite and steel. Although the works are small, the textures and weights of materials are intended to be monumental through a different sense of scale, communicated through mass.
Johnson's work is on display through Jan. 12.
