The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is hosting an opening reception for its annual Regional Juried Exhibition, which features 27 artists from Illinois, Missouri, Tennessee and Arkansas.

The reception will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 16B N. Spanish St., downtown Cape Girardeau.

The exhibit was developed to demonstrate the diversity of the southeast Missouri region, including its bordering states. The juror for the exhibition was Joshua Newth, an artist and teacher at Southeast Missouri State University.

Two SEMO students will also be displaying work in the council's Micro Galleries in conjunction with the exhibit. Cherie Markham will display sculpture work and Isabella Impey will display paintings.

Aside from the opening reception, the gallery is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
