Carbondale author Mike McNerny will hold a book signing this weekend for his new book, "A Shape in Time and Space: The Migration of the Necked Discord Gravemarker."

The book explores the history of a uniquely shaped pioneer gravemarker brought by the first wave of immigrants arriving in Southern Illinois in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The book explores the origins of the marker in America and Europe and tracks the migration of some of the families whose names are inscribed on the markers, according to press materials released by Borgo Publishing.

McNerny will be signing books at Bookworm from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 29.

McNerny was a staff archaeologist at Southern Illinois University Carbondale museum from 1970 to 1976, and he founded American Resources Group Ltd. in Carbondale in 1979. He is currently retired and lives in Carbondale.
