The Carbondale Public library will screen two LGBT films on consecutive Saturdays this month.
The first event is the screening of the documentary film "Not Throwing in the Towel" by Southern Illinois filmmaker Sandra Pfeifer. Screening will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at the library.
This documentary tells the story of a lesbian couple of 15 years living in western Kentucky.
Pfeifer is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and a graduate of Southern Illinois University Carbondale's film department. She will be present for a Q&A after the film screening.
PBS Indie Lens Pop-up film "Real Boy" will screen the following weekend, at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 17, in the library. That documentary film follows the journey of a trans teen as he navigates adolescence, sobriety and the physical and emotional ramifications of his changing gender identity.
Herrin native Brad Calcaterra, who is an actor, performance coach and the founder of The Studio of New York City, will moderate a discussion after the film.
