Irish Festival and Celtic Fair (copy)

Participating in a competition of Ancient Athletics, a unit of the St. Andrew Society of Central Illinois, Chris Nickell of Springfield takes his turn to throw Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016 at Walker's Bluff. 

This year marks the 21st annual Southern Illinois Irish Festival.

It runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at Walker's Bluff. The festival features two days of outdoor concerts, Scottish highland games, whiskey tastings, children's activities and more.

Saturday's music lineup is as follows:

  • Noon: The Heartstrings
  • 12:50 p.m.: The Dorians
  • 2:10 p.m. and 3:20 p.m.: The Brianna Brown Band (from St. Louis)
  • 4:35 p.m.: Blackberry Blossoms

Sunday's music lineup is as follows:

  • 1 p.m. and 3:35 p.m.: Roisín Dubh (from Johnston City)
  • 2:20 and 4:50 p.m.: Celtica (from the Metro East)

On both Saturday and Sunday, the Ancient Athletes from Springfield will be performing Scottish highland games, and Sean Folsom will demonstrate bagpipes of the world. Whiskey tastings will also be going on both days. Food and merchandise will be available for purchase.

For the children, there will be bouncy structures, and Professor Play will be making balloon creations on Sunday afternoon.
