Get Smart ** Steve Carell seems lost in this perfunctory remake of the '60s sitcom. Anne Hathaway and Dwayne Johnson also star in this paint-by-numbers espionage farce. 111 min.
Hancock ***½ Will Smith stars as a problem-plagued, screw-up superhero in this dark, funny, rollicking tale of rehabilitation, redemption and really cool special effects. With Jason Bateman and an awesome Charlize Theron. PG-13 for some intense sequences of sci-fi action and violence, and language. 92 min.
Hellboy II: The Golden Army **½ A hyperactive sequel to the 2004 hit, based on Mike Mignola's comic books and once again directed by Guillermo Del Toro, this trippy visual spectacle goes somewhere the first ``Hellboy'' never ventured: into the Realms of Tedium. 110 min.
Journey to the Center of the Earth **½ Fanged fish, T-Rex drool and bio-luminescent bluebirds respectively nip, plop and flutter in the audience's face in this diverting 3-D update of the Jules Verne classic with Brendan Fraser and Josh Hutcherson. PG for intense adventure action and some scary moments. 93 min.
Kit Kittredge: An American Girl **½ Kit Kittredge, a 9-year old girl, endures hardships growing up during the Great Depression. Starring: Abigail Breslin, Stanley Tucci, Glenne Headly, Jane Krakowski, Julia Ormond. Rated G.
Kung Fu Panda *** Jack Black gives voice, and emotion, to the title character, a rolypoly panda bear who works for his father's noodle shop in ancient China, but dreams of being a martial arts master. A spirited computer-animated follow-your-dream comedy - smart, fun, with a little Zen wisdom to boot. 91 min.
Mamma Mia! ** Raised on a Greek island by a formerly rebellious mom who never disclosed the identity of her father, a bride-to-be locates three men who might be her father and invites them to her wedding. Starring: Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Amanda Seyfried, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgard. Rated PG-13 for some sex-related comments.
Meet Dave *½ Family-friendly fun starring Eddie Murphy as a spaceship configured like a human and also the inch-high alien piloting the craft. With Gabrielle Union and Elizabeth Banks. 1 hr. 30 PG (sugestive humor) - Carrie Rickey PG for bawdy and suggestive humor, action and some language. 90 min.
Space Chimps ** Three NASA chimps are sent to a galaxy far, far away. Two have 'The Right Stuff,' and the other, a good natured goofball, has 'The Wrong Stuff.' The y find themselves on a strange, uncharted planet, where they embark on a fantastical journey to save its inhabitants from a tyrannical leader. Starring: Andy Samberg, Patrick Warburton, Zach Shada, Jeff Daniels, Andy Samberg. Rated G.
Wanted **½ James McAvoy is an office drone loser who gets caught up in a secret order of assassins - and gets mentored by the cool, tattooed Angelina Jolie - in this assaultive roller coaster of an action pic. It'd be more fun if the violence wasn't so nasty, and if the script made sense. Still, visually, and viscerally, it's pretty awesome. 110 min. Rated R for strong bloody violence throughout, pervasive language and some sexuality.
WALL-E *** What if mankind had to leave Earth, and somebody forgot to turn the last robot off? WALL-E, spends every day doing what he was made for.
