John D. “Papa” Dungey of Marion will celebrate his 100th birthday at a centennial celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 29, in Second Baptist Church at 308 S. Russel Street in Marion.
He was born May 26, 1916, in Macedonia.
He served in U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He received the medal he's wearing in the more recent photo Sept. 7, 2013, during the ninth annual Veterans On Parade event in Marion that recognizes veterans for their service.
John worked for Washington National Insurance Company for 33 years.
He has four daughters, Marilyn Adams of Brentwood, Tennessee, Joann Rippy of Mobile, Alabama, Jeannie Wooten and Carolyn Kimmel, both of Marion. He also 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited. He requests no gifts.
