Robert K. Gay of Marion, will celebrate his 100th birthday during a noon dinner and family get-together Monday, Aug. 15, in Fifth Season Residential at 915 Radcliffe St., in Marion.
Robert was born Aug. 15, 1916, in New Burnside, to Robert T. and Eulah (Choate) Gay.
He married Juanita Simmons of New Burnside, on May, 24, 1939, who passed away in 2004.
Mr. Gay was in education for 38 years starting in 1937, and retiring in 1977, with a two-year leave of absence while serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He first taught in an one room schoolhouse at Pleasant Valley near Stonefort prior to the war. Upon his discharge from the army, he began teaching at the Lamaster School north of Marion. Robert finished his career in education in the Marion Unit 2 District, where he held the positions of teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, administrative assistant and assistant superintendent.
He has two children, Gary L. Gay of Cape Girardeau, and Keith A. Gay of Marion. He also has nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
