The Southern Illinois AIDS Coalition is hosting a candlelight vigil and service at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 30, to coincide with the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Vigils.
The event will be held at Church of the Good Shepherd, at 515 S. Orchard Drive in Carbondale. The guest speaker is the Rev. John Holst, a pastor at Zion United Church of Christ in Marion. A reception will immediately follow the service.
A collection will also be taken to pay for grocery store gift cards for low-income families impacted by HIV and AIDS in the 19 southernmost counties of Illinois. Personal hygiene items and household cleaning supplies will also be collected to donate to HIV Care Connect; items needed include shampoo, toilet paper, paper towels, deodorant, laundry detergent, bath soap, bleach, dish soap, trash bags, toothpaste and toothbrush, razors and shaving cream, tampons and pads, tissues and sandwich bags.
