CARBONDALE - Carbondale police are investigating a homicide that happened between 10 and 10:30 p.m. Thursday in Carbondale. Police were first called at about 10:40 p.m.

Ryan Livingston, a 22-year-old Carterville man, was found on the sidewalk in front of 317 West Walnut St. He was bleeding from the chest with an apparent stab wound.

Livingston was rushed to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, where he died at about 1:50 a.m. of his injuries.

Police said Livingston attended the Sunset Concert at Shryock Auditorium on the Southern Illinois University Carbondale campus. After the concert, he was given a ride to a friend's house. He was walking in the 300 block of West Walnut when he was attacked.

Police said Livingston was able to give them some information before he died. They have reason to believe he was killed during a robbery attempt.

The two suspects in this case are described as black men, one of whom has a light complexion.

One was wearing some type of hat turned backwards.

"Every available person is working on this," Deputy Chief Calvin Stearns said Friday.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin, with the Rev. Kurt Jensen officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation is from noon to 2 p.m. before the funeral.

Livingston leaves behind a daughter, Hannah. Memorial contributions are being accepted at the funeral home. He is also survived by his parents, Richard and Denise, and his two brothers, Randy and Robert.

West Walnut Street is also known as Illinois 13 East. The area where Livingston was found is near Meredith Funeral Home. It is a residential neighborhood, with many houses that have been converted into multi-household dwellings. Parking is allowed on the north side of the street.
