CARBONDALE - Gov. Rod Blagojevich may be seeking help in choosing President-elect Barack's Obama replacement in the U.S. Senate, but one of his named consultants said he hasn't heard a word yet.
WBBM, a CBS-owned Chicago news radio station, reported last week that Blagojevich would consult with other prominent state Democrats, specifically naming Southern Illinois University President and former U.S. Congressman Glenn Poshard.
"I haven't been contacted," Poshard said Wednesday, saying he has heard no official word from the governor's office.
Speculation abounds as to who Blagojevich will appoint to the position. Rumored candidates include retiring State Senate President Emil Jones, state director of Veterans Affairs Tammy Duckworth and U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr.
Some political blog sites even list Poshard as a possible candidate himself, though he said the thought isn't even on his mind.
"I'm president of this university here and that's what I'm focusing on," he said.
