JEFFERSON COUNTY - A nine-car derailment on Union Pacific tracks shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday shut down Illinois 37 between Bonnie and Ina.
Two of the nine derailed cars landed on the highway, according to Jefferson County Sheriff Roger Mulch.
The derailed cars were empty and no injuries resulted from the derailment, a dispatcher said Sunday. No hazardous materials were involved, so no residents were forced to evacuate their homes.
Sheriff Mulch remained at the scene, along with two deputies: Curt Anselment, assistant police chief of Bonnie, and Robert Marsh, Ina police chief. Also assisting were five Illinois State Police units and some Illinois Department of Transportation crews.
