Southern Illinois University President Glenn Poshard met this morning with the heads of Carbondale campus constituency organizations and with campus administration leadership to inform them that he has placed Chancellor Fernando Trevino on administrative leave.
Statement to the university community by SIU President Glenn Poshard:
"It is with deep personal regret, but also with a deeper sense of obligation to the students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of Southern Illinois University Carbondale that, in fulfilling the full measure of the responsibilities of this office, I have placed Chancellor Fernando Trevino on administrative leave.
This decision, made in consultation with the Board of Trustees, is in effect pending a review of the serious concerns brought to my attention by campus and community officials relating to the performance of Dr. Trevino's assigned duties.
Dr. Trevino was notified of this decision last week. I have spoken to Provost Don Rice and he has agreed to assume the chancellor's day to day responsibilities until the review of these concerns is completed.
As an employee matter, and out of respect for Dr. Trevino's privacy, no further information or comment will be provided by this office during the review of these issues."
