HARRISBURG - Harrisburg is getting $21,000 from the Delta Regional Authority to help pay for certification of its levees, U.S. Rep. John Shimkus, R-Collinsville, said.
The certification project will allow businesses and homes in the area to receive insurance in cases of flooding, Shimkus said. Seventy-four businesses and 39 homes were affected earlier this year, when flooding struck a stretch of the city.
The total project cost for certification is $178,500. The state is adding $50,000, while the city will pay $107,500.
