Pinckneyville native being inducted into amateur softball hall of fame this spring

PINCKNEYVILLE - Lewis Schweizer of Pinckneyville will be inducted into the Amateur Softball Association of Illinois Hall of Fame April 4. The induction will take place at the Decatur Hotel and Convention Center.

Schweizer played fastpitch softball from 1964-65 and from 1972-88. He played for Du Quoin, Pinckneyville Keene Road Builders, Pinckneyville Provarts, Murdale Martin Oilers, Southern Illinois Jakes and the Pinckneyville Celtics.

An outfielder and DH, Schweizer played for two state champions, the Oilers in 1972 and the Celtics in 1981. He was an all-state performer n 1972, 1980 and 1981. He batted over .300 11 times. He retired in 1988 with a career batting average of .321.
