INA - Rend Lake College hurler Jacob Wente has signed with Southeast Missouri State University.

Wente, a 20-year-old sophomore from Steeleville, racked up 42 strikeouts in 65 innings for the Warriors last season as a freshman. Walking only 17 batters, Wente gave up only one home run and held opponents to a .241 batting average.

"Jacob is a pitcher with a very projective body," said Warriors coach Tony Etnier. "We've had him up to 91 before with a lot of movement on his fastball. He has a good changeup and his breaking ball is getting better every day."

"Jacob is a very focused kid who is going to maintain a well-balanced academic and athletic schedule. He holds his education in high regard and is of the highest moral character."
