MOUNT VERNON - A jury has convicted two Mount Vernon residents on selling crack cocaine.

Tyrone W. Jackson, 37, and Madlon S. Ladd, 27, have been found guilty on charges involving sale of crack cocaine.

A jury returned guilty verdicts on all counts against the two in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis. Their sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 27 in East St. Louis. They face a mandatory statutory minimum sentence of five years imprisonment.

Each was convicted of conspiracy to distribute and distribution of crack cocaine, and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine. Jackson was convicted of a second count of distribution and Ladd on an additional count of possession.

Two of the counts of conviction for Jackson carry a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison and the other two, 20 years. Three of the counts of conviction for Ladd carry a maximum sentence of 40 years; the other a maximum of 20 years.

Courtney Cox, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced the verdicts in a press release. He said the investigation was a cooperative effort involving the Joint Narcotics Unit of the Mount Vernon Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration. All participate in the Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative aimed at removing guns and drugs from communities.
