GALLATIN COUNTY - Gallatin County Sheriff Raymond Martin has been taken into custody on federal charges of selling marijuana to a confidential source since November of 2008.

Martin, who has been sheriff in the county since 1990, was arrested by U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency agents Monday. A criminal complaint filed states Martin delivered one or two pounds of marijuana to a confidential source on the average of one time every two weeks, noting on two occasions the delivery was about 20 pounds.

Martin reportedly told the source to "sell the marijuana for whatever amount the source could get out of it, stating that it was all profit," according to the complaint. Agents say they have audio and video surveillance that records Martin and the source meeting in rural areas to exchange the drugs for cash.

Federal agents also allege Martin used his department-issued vehicle to transport the drugs.
