FRANKLIN COUNTY - Five Franklin County businesses were cited by Illinois State Police recently for selling alcohol to a minor.

Jumpin' Jimmy's in Benton, Wal-Mart Supercenter and The One Stop in West City, Rend Lake Motel in Buckner and Huck's Convenience Store in Zeigler were involved in the sale of an alcoholic beverage to a minor, state police officials said.

An employee from each establishment was arrested for unlawful delivery of alcoholic liquor.

The enforcement is designed to determine which businesses might be selling alcohol to people under age 21.

State police surveyed 25 businesses during the Franklin County sting and commended those who did not sell alcohol to a minor after asking for identification.

The businesses were surveyed Dec. 28 as part of the state police Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement. The surveys are funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.
