STONEFORT - Efforts are continuing to help a Stonefort couple after the mobile home they were renting was destroyed by fire.

Stonefort Fire Chief Gordon Mitchell said the Red Cross has provided Jerry and Dawn Murphy with temporary shelter in Harrisburg, and the Philadelphia Church in Stonefort is collecting household items for them. The Murphys did not have renters' insurance, Mitchell said.

The call came in at 8:55 p.m. New Year's Day and six Stonefort firefighters were at the scene for more than two hours. The Carrier Mills Fire Department also responded with manpower and a tanker truck, Mitchell said. "We're not absolutely certain about the cause of the fire, but it is believed to be electrical in nature," he added.

Those wishing to help the Murphys can contact the Philadelphia Church at 777-2531.
