METROPOLIS - An Ohio man remains in the Massac County Jail awaiting extradition to McCracken County, Ky., after he was arrested in Johnson County driving a stolen car, police said.

He was booked into the Massac jail on a charge of possessing the stolen vehicle. He was still in custody Wednesday night, a Massac County dispatcher confirmed.

Christopher Wilson, 32, of Akron, also is charged in a warrant with 12 counts of second-degree criminal mischief and two counts of theft by unlawful taking in connection with breaking into vending machines around Paducah.

Wilson is accused of damaging 12 Coca-Cola and Pepsi vending machines and stealing approximately $360 from them. Damage to the machines was estimated at $600 to each, or $7,200 total. The incidents occurred between Dec. 19 and Saturday.

He also is charged in Kentucky with theft of a 2005 Ford Mustang.

A Crime Stoppers tip led Paducah police to suspect Wilson. Officer Chris Bolton and Detective Matt Smith interviewed him Wednesday in the Massac County Jail. Wilson told them he came to Paducah to visit a friend, but found the friend was in jail. He booked a motel room and was waiting for his friend to be released from jail. During that time, he began breaking into the vending machines, he reportedly told police.
