CARBONDALE -">The Art, Craft and Yard Sale in the SIU Arena parking lot will celebrate its 40th anniversary this year and will be organized by the Rotary Club of Carbondale-Breakfast for the first time.

The sale will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the SIU Arena parking lot and include arts, crafts and a potpourri of other items. Rotary board member Terry Mathias said proceeds will benefit projects and charities of the Rotary Club. He said about 50 sellers have signed up so far, but expects more to reserve spaces.

Mathias said this will be the second year that the sale takes place in August instead of September,

"It's geared a lot toward students and families coming into town and setting up new households," Mathias said.

Some of the wares for sale include collectibles, handbags and wallets, jewelry and furniture. The Rotary Club will have beverages available to those who work up a thirst shopping.

Mathias said spaces are still available for sellers but he would prefer to have them set up by Monday. However, sellers can still get a space after that.
