Saluki Stadium owned the spotlight Tuesday but construction still continues on another athletics facility.

The SIU Arena's renovations continue with the completion date falling in around the end of September, according to Jason King, associate athletics director of facilities. He said the renovations are coming along nicely with the installation of chairback seats and the upper six rows of bleachers.

He said the scoreboard with video has been put together and is hanging from the ceiling. Work is now being done on the concourse.

"We're making good progress," King said.

The arena is now guarded by two massive concrete Salukis that were finished last week. The Saluki basketball team will have its first official home game against Northeastern Illinois University at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, as part of the ESPN's College Hoops Tip-off Marathon.

King said construction is on schedule but the main hope is its ready when the basketball team is.

"The number one target is to make sure the basketball team can start practicing in the middle of October," King said.
