Denny Whaley, 40, of Bluford is in the Jefferson County Jail awaiting bond to be set after an incident late Sunday night at a residence at 21125 E. Sixth St. in Bluford.

Sheriff Roger D. Mulch said his office responded to a reported domestic battery at about 10 p.m. Sunday at the home. When they arrived, a female ran out of the residence and Whaley ran back inside. They were told the woman had been battered and that Whaley had firearms. Two children were inside the residence.

The Mount Vernon and Jefferson County High Risk Team was deployed; when they arrived, the two children left the home. Officers searched the home and found Whaley had fled. The weapons were recovered in the residence.

After a lengthy search of the Bluford area, Whaley was taken into custody at 13510 N. Auburn Lane in Bluford.

He was taken to the jail. The sheriff’s department is continuing to investigate the incident, Mulch said.

Assisting during the incident were officers of the Mount Vernon Police Department, Illinois State Police and Litton Ambulance Service.
