The Franklin County sheriff’s and coroner’s offices are investigating the death of a 50-year old man from Benton.

The sheriff’s department received a 911 call about 6 p.m. Tuesday reporting that a passerby noticed a car in a corn field and stopped to check on the vehicle when he noticed a dead man inside of that vehicle.

Deputies, state troopers, EMS and coroner’s personnel responded to the call.

Coroner Marty Leffler said the car and body were discovered roughly a quarter-mile south of Forest Baptist Church Road on South Hill City Road.

The coroner said no foul play is evident and alcohol is a suspected factor in the death. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday morning.

The man’s name was being withheld Tuesday pending notification of family members.
