MARION — A body was found south of Marion and a homicide investigation is under way, Williamson County Sheriff Bennie Vick’s office said Friday.

About 3:30 p.m. Friday, a caller to the sheriff’s department reported he’d gone outside and found a female lying in a neighbor’s yard off Mcinturf Road south of the Marion city limits.

The caller approached the person and found she was not breathing. He asked for an ambulance and deputies.

Upon arrival, emergency medical technicians determined the woman was dead.

The victim’s identity was not released Friday pending the notification of family members. An autopsy is scheduled for today.

Police determined the victim did not live in the area. They released no other details, including the possible manner of death.

The investigation is being conducted by the sheriff’s office, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services and the Williamson County coroner’s office.
