The Southern put out a call to regional pet owners, and you answered -- boy, did you answer.
We've been inundated with great photos of your beautiful animals. We've seen pictures of dogs, cats, a hampster and even a chicken or two.
We're anxious to share all your pets' photos with the world, but we also want to be fair to all our contest entrants. Because of the overwhelming response, we've decided to amend our plans.
Each Friday, we will feature a gallery of up to 50 of your photos at thesouthern.com. Two days later, on Sunday, one lucky winner will be highlighted in the print edition of The Southern.
If you submitted a photo but don't see it in the gallery, don't sweat it; we'll be rolling pictures over to the following week until we've used them all. We're going to try our best to feature photos in the order we receive them.
So keep your pictures coming, and keep an eye tuned to thesouthern.com every Friday. We truly believe these changes will be beneficial to our entrants, as there will be less competition on a weekly basis and individuals viewing the gallery will be more likely to see your pet.
The first gallery goes live Friday, Aug. 22, at thesouthern.com with the first Pet of the Week featured in the Sunday, Aug. 24, newspaper. Rules of entry are below:
- Photos will only be accepted via email. They can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Please only submit one photo per pet. Entering multiple pets is perfectly fine, but we only need one photo of each.
- Entries must include pet's name, owner's name and hometown to be valid.
- Please wait one month after your pet appears before resubmitting the same pet's photo again. We want to give everyone a fair chance to participate.
