CARBONDALE — SIU President Glenn Poshard, his wife, Jo, and the late Patricia “Patty” Shay were all honored Friday at the annual Carbondale Chamber of Commerce banquet.

The Poshards were recognized as the 2012 Carbondale Community Arts Keeping Arts in Business Award winners. Shaw was honored with a lifetime achievement award from the chamber of commerce.

The Poshards have actively supported local and regional arts for years, a CCA news release stated. In Carbondale, the couple supports the McLeod Summer Playhouse, Varsity Center for the Arts, Carbondale Community Arts and the Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra.

The Poshards received a sculpture by local artist Aldon Addington for winning the award.

Shay died Aug. 28 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis at the age of 59. She was a founding member and senior vice president of First Southern Bank in Carbondale.

Others honored at the banquet were:

l T.J. Martin, owner of TJ’s Fine Jewelry, Business Leader of the Year;

l Former SIU Chancellor Sam Goldman, Citizen of the Year;

l MidCountry Bank’s Melissa Lewis, Young Professional of the Year;

l Extra Help, Regional Business of the Year;

l Illini Asphalt’s Bill Simonds, President’s Service Award;

l The Bank of Carbondale, Business of the Year;

l Margaret Nesbitt, director of Carbondale’s I Can Read! program, Lifetime Achievement Award.
