JONESBORO — Union County treasurer Darren Bailey on Tuesday announced he will not seek re-election to a third team.

"Today it is with great pride in the work done and great excitement about the future that I am announcing that I will not seek a third term as Union County Treasurer," he wrote in a news release.

"Being a young man as a first-time candidate, I always knew I would likely serve just two terms. For one, I knew that my professional career was just starting. Also, I feel strongly that it is always important to have new perspectives and new ideas running our government. I'm excited to see what this change will mean both for the office and for me."

Bailey said he does not have a new position lined up, but hopes his record is appealing to whomever decides to next ask him to join their venture.

Filing petitions for treasurer may be picked up until Dec. 4; they may be turned in during the filing period from Nov. 27 to Dec. 4.
