The City of Carbondale Police will host its final spring 2018 personal safety class for women from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, at the Carbondale Police Department.
In a news release, the police department said the class is intended to teach women prevention and precaution methods and how to escape an attack. It is focused on sexual assault prevention but can also be applied to other types of crime prevention.
The class, which will be taught by police officers, will include a lecture and two hands-on workshop sessions, where participants will learn techniques to escape from an attacker.
Participants must be at least 13 years old, and those younger than 17 must be accompanied by a parent or other adult and have a release signed by a parent. The classes are free, but class size is limited to 20 people.
The department is encouraging women who have already taken the class to sign up for the workshop sessions as a refresher course.
