A crash on U.S. Route 45 in Saline County on Friday resulted in major injuries.
According to the report from the Illinois State Police, District 19, at approximately 3:52 p.m., a 2017 Nissan Murano, driven by Cortez Ellis, 36, of Harrisburg, was southbound on Route 45, north of McDermott Road, when he attempted to pass several vehicles.
Ellis sideswiped one of the vehicles, a 2013 Dodge Journey driven by Carolyn S. Miller, as she was preparing to turn into her driveway. Following the collision, Ellis continued southbound when, just north of Coon Lane, his vehicle left the roadway, struck an embankment and overturned, then struck a tree and utility pole before coming to rest.
Ellis was not wearing a seat belt, and was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, before being flown by Air Evac to a regional hopsital.
The Saline County Sheriff's Department, Carrier Mills Police Department, Saline County Ambulance and Jones' Towing assisted at the scene. Charges are pending.
