A Harrisburg Illinois Youth Center inmate was sentenced Thursday for assaulting a corrections officer.

According to a news release from Saline County State’s Attorney Jayson Clark’s office, Jaylan Banks, 18, entered a plea of guilty Thursday to the Class 2 felony charge of aggravated battery. Judge Walden Morris sentenced Banks to eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections with two years supervised release.

April 21 charges were filed against Banks, alleging he, while in custody at the IYC, struck corrections officer Jacob Miller in the face. The investigation was led by Harrisburg police officer Brent Davis.
