Two people are dead after a head-on crash Sunday in Saline County.

According to a news release from the Illinois State Police District 19, at about 6:42 p.m., Brenda L. Ward, 51, of Harrisburg, was driving her GMC Sierra southbound on U.S. 45 while Bill Ghent, 69, of Harrisburg, was driving his GMC Canyon northbound. The report said the two crashed at Rays Road. Both vehicles came to rest in a ditch on the northwest side of U.S. 45.

The report stated Ward and Linda Ghent, 70, of Harrisburg, Bill Ghent’s passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Saline County coroner. Bill Ghent was initially transported by ambulance, but, the report said, he was later airlifted to a regional hospital for injuries suffered in crash.

Charges have not been made as the investigation is still pending.
