There were no injuries in a residential fire in Murphysboro Friday night.

Shift commander Jim Murphy with the Murphysboro Fire Department said Saturday that they got the call of the fire on Gartside Street at about 6 p.m. and were on the scene fighting the fire for about four hours. He said there was a house and a garage on the property.

Murphy said there were two people at home at the time, but he said there were no injuries.

Murphy said Murphysboro Police and the Jackson County ambulance service were also on the scene and confirmed a post on the department’s Facebook page about the fire stating that Carbondale and Murphysboro Pomona Somerset Fire Departments responded.

“Murphysboro benefits greatly from the exceptional working relationships we have with them,” the post reads. It also states that local businesses and community members provided pizza and coffee to the emergency responders.

Murphy said the fire marshal will be on site Tuesday to inspect the scene.
