A 19-year-old West Frankfort man is dead after his car crashed Monday morning in Franklin County.

According to a news release from Franklin County Sheriff Don Jones, Trebr Lenich was driving a Nissan Rogue on North Thompsonville Road south of Knob Prairie Road, when the car crashed on the west side of North Thompsonville Road. The vehicle traveled through a ditch, struck an embankment, and caught on fire. Passersby extinguished the fire in the engine compartment.

It appears Lenich was killed on impact, and the Franklin County Coroner, who pronounced him dead on the scene. 

Lenich was believed to be on his way home from work at a local coal mine, Jones said.

Abbott EMS and Cave-Thompsonville Fire Department also responded. The crash is still under investigation.
