Retiring U.S. Rep. Jerry Costello, D-Belleville, said Tuesday he doesn’t expect a final decision on the tax cut extension and government spending until early 2013.

Costello said the general mood in Washington, D.C., right now indicates no action will be taken in November or December, a temporary extension on the tax cuts and sequestration will be implemented for at least 90 days, giving the administrations of either President Barack Obama or Mitt Romney an opportunity to weigh in on the matter.

Costello will be retiring from Illinois’ 12th congressional district seat in January, a seat he has served in since 1988. Democrat Bill Enyart of Belleville, Republican Jason Plummer of Fairview Heights and Green Party candidate Paula Bradshaw are running to replace Costello in the November election.

This is a news story? Does anyone really care what Mr. Costello thinks?

ps: Costello’s Airport-to-Nowhere is still a bottomless hole that’s consuming our hard-earned tax money. If Mr. Costello had been an honorable man, he would have proposed legislation to close down this albatross, sell its contents on e-bay and turn the land back to what it was…a corn field.
