A 35-year-old Coulterville man died and a Nashville, Illinois, man was seriously injured in a Washington County traffic crash early Thursday morning.
According to a news release from Illinois State Police, Matthew R. MicKinley died after he was ejected from his vehicle after striking a pickup truck head-on. Michael R. Barfield Jr., 40, of Nashville, was flown from the scene of the crash to a regional hospital with life-threatening injuries.
According to ISP, McKinley was westbound on Illinois 15 and Barfield was eastbound, both near the intersection with Liberty Church Road. For an unknown reason, McKinley veered into the eastbound lane and struck Barfield's truck head-on. McKinley was pronounced dead on the scene. Barfield had to be extricated from his vehicle.
Illinois 15 was closed for four hours and 45 minutes for crash investigation and clean-up.
No charges were filed in relation to the crash. The investigation continues.
