Two people died and three others were injured in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday at a rest area east of Mount Vernon.

Holly C. Fenton, 24, and Cody A. Bidabe, 20, were killed in the crash that occurred just before 3:30 a.m., state police said.

The two were passengers in an extended cab truck driven by Robert T. Hayes, 19, of Bluford.

Hayes was eastbound on Interstate 64 when he exited into the rest area at a high rate of speed and struck a tree, police said.

Fenton, of Bluford, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Bidabe, of Fairfield, died at a Jefferson County hospital.

Hayes and two other passengers, a male and female who were not identified by police, were taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

An investigation into the crash is continuing, but Hayes has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs.
