MARION - Police now believe a Carbondale man was responsible for the stabbing death of 37-year-old Tina Pickens in her Marion home late Wednesday night.
Patrick K. Williams, 47, of Carbondale was charged Friday with the murder of Pickens. Police announced Williams faces two charges of murder during a news conference at Marion City Hall.
Pickens of Marion was found dead at about 11:50 p.m. Wednesday in her home at 408 S. Van Buren St. A criminal pathologist performed an autopsy Thursday and found the cause of death was multiple stab wounds.
Williams, who was Pickens' boyfriend, was taken into custody Thursday on charges that he violated an order of no contact with Pickens. He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder after evidence was presented to the Williamson County state's attorney's office, and it was determined there was enough probable cause for a formal arrest warrant for murder.
Williams is being held in Williamson County Jail on a $1 million bond and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
Marion Police Department was assisted by the Williamson County Major Case Squad, Illinois State Police Crime Lab, Carbondale Police Department and the SIU Police Department.
