A Carbondale man has been sentenced to serve five years in prison followed by a two-year period of mandatory supervised release for unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle.

Davis J. Heinbaugh, 20, was sentenced in Jackson County Court after pleading guilty to the charge, a class 2 felony, on Monday, Jackson County State’s Attorney Michael C. Carr announced in a news release Wednesday.

The charge stemmed from the theft of a Dodge Ram, which was reported stolen Jan. 23 from North Allyn Street. Carbondale Police officers were dispatched to Helen Street a short time later in response to a report of two vehicles running into each other in a backyard.

Heinbaugh, who was visiting residents on Helen Street, was found to be in possession of the truck without the owner’s permission.

The investigation was conducted by the Carbondale Police Department. Assistant State’s Attorney Rebecca L. Blomer handled prosecution of the case.
