CARBONDALE — A suspect in the armed robbery of Staples in Carbondale has been arrested, according to a press release from Carbondale Police Department.
Tyler Darnell Johnson, 33, of St. Louis, Missouri, was arrested at 11 p.m. Nov. 13 at a Carbondale hotel and charged with armed robbery and unlawful possession of a ammunition by a felon.
On Nov. 11, a male suspect entered the business, displayed a handgun and demanded money. The suspect pepper-sprayed one employee before fleeing in a white, newer model vehicle with an undisclosed amount of money and merchandise.
During the course of the investigation, detectives learned of similar robberies in Rolla, Missouri, and Arnold, Missouri. Detectives from all three locations collaborated and identified Johnson as a suspect. He was located in Carbondale and arrested without incident.
Johnson also is charged with two counts each of robbery first degree and armed criminal action for the incident in Arnold and robbery, armed criminal action and assault second degree for the incident in Rolla. Bond was set at $500,000 for the Jackson County charges and another $500,000 for the Rolla charges.
Carbondale police were assisted in the investigation by Rolla and Arnold police departments. The investigation is continuing.
