A 23-year-old Marion man has been sentenced to serve five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on a Class 2 felony charge of dealing meth.

According to a news release from Williamson County state's attorney Brandon Zanotti, James Avant pleaded guilty to unlawful delivery of a controlled substance (meth). He was sentenced on Wednesday to the five-year prison term. 

The release states Avant was arrested July 18 and has been in the Williamson County Jail since then. It also states Avant had previously been sentenced to prison on a burglary conviction.
