A Mill Creek man has been sentenced to three years in prison for sex abuse of a minor, Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds announced Tuesday.

Jeremy McCormick, 37, was arrested in October 2016 for committing “an act of sexual penetration” with a 16-year-old, according to a news release from the state’s attorney’s office.

In addition to the prison sentence, McCormick will serve a two-year period of mandatory supervised release and must register as a sex offender for life.

McCormick was found guilty of one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony.

The offense occurred in June 2016, the release states. The Illinois State Police handled the investigation.
