A Murphysboro man has been arrested and charged with five counts of child pornography.

Police arrested Paul Joseph Blaney, 67, of 1357 N. Seventh St., B, at about 2 p.m. Tuesday after a nearly 14-month investigation, according to a news release from the Murphysboro Police Department.

On Friday, authorities executed a search warrant on Blaney’s home and seized evidence of the production and possession of child pornography, the release states.

Blaney is now incarcerated in Jackson County Jail. His bond has been set at $1 million.

Police believe there are victims beyond those identified in the investigation, as the offenses span several years. The investigation is ongoing.

Blaney’s arrest is not related to the arrest of Eric Emil Deutsch on Nov. 28, 2017, the police department noted in the release.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the City of Murphysboro Police Department at 618-684-2121 or the Murphysboro/Jackson County Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 618-687-2677.
