A Thompsonville man was arrested Thursday on charges of aggravated battery with a firearm and attempted first-degree murder after an incident involving his own mother, who suffered life-threatening gunshot and stab wounds.
According to a news release from Franklin County Sheriff Don Jones, deputies responded to a home in rural Thompsonville about 4:30 p.m. Thursday after a report of a domestic violence incident involving a shooting victim and an armed suspect.
The release states deputies arrested Jeffrey R. Herrell, 32, on the attempted murder and aggravated battery charges; the charges are tentative and are pending review by the Franklin County State's Attorney's Office.
The victim is Herrell's 52-year-old mother. According to the release, she suffered life-threatening gunshot and stab wounds and was flown to an out-of-state hospital. Her condition is unknown.
