A Vergennes man was arrested last week after he allegedly intentionally drove his car into a Royalton police cruiser.
According to a news release, at about 5:19 p.m. on Aug. 11, Franklin County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of an erratic driver on Illinois 149, just west of Royalton. It was reported that the driver, Johnathan D. Quinn, 45, of Vergennes, had been running drivers off the road and had been driving slowly.
At the request of county dispatch, a Royalton officer responded to the scene until deputies could arrive. He found the suspect vehicle stationary on the highway just north of Chamness Road. The report said when the officer attempted to make contact with the suspect driver, the driver apparently intentionally drove his vehicle into the Royalton police car.
Deputies responded shortly after and subdued the suspect. He was then taken to a local hospital for his apparent level of intoxication.
Quinn was later charged with driving under the influence, illegal transportation of alcohol, improper parking on a roadway, felony criminal damage to state supported property and aggravated assault. He was transported to the Franklin County Jail.
The Royalton officer received minor injuries.
